Oklahomans! You Don’t Want This!

Ok, here I am seething mad, at the possibility that a horse slaughter plant might be built-in Oklahoma. I should say that I am shocked and surprised but I am not, really. Pro-slaughter people have been trying for years now to get something like this through in a state, where the politicians are willing to be the fools at hand, who just don’t give a crap about humans, much less animals.

Oklahomans!! You do not want this in your state! You don’t want this stigma attached to you. Horse slaughter is a brutal industry. Not just to the animals either. You will foot the bill for this as a tax payer, first off. If you don’t care about horses, then I hope you will consider the fiscal aspect of this. Tax payers will have to pay for this in many ways.

First, this will NOT create good jobs for your economy. Slaughter house jobs rarely do. They are low paying jobs for desperate people. Secondly, most of these plants are foreign-owned. There generally is not a market for horse meat in America. The meat is sold over seas. You and I, will be paying for inspections of facilities that slaughter horses for consumption in other countries if any new facilities are built here. The stigma will run off your small businesses in what ever town it is built in. Other towns that lived near facilities in the past have tons of horrors stories to tell.

Former Mayor of Kaufman TX, Paula Bacon, could tell you a boat load of agonizing gruesomeness that came from the plant in her town. It drained her town of monetary resources. Not to mention the horrible cruelty, from horses on trucks dropping foals during transport, to horses missing eyes from being gouged out (sometimes on purpose) and horses missing limbs right on the trucks. Not anomalies! This is the norm!

This will not stop if new plants are built. Then there are the environmental issues of blood waste polluting your water supplies and foul smells of rotten flesh. Total night mare. There is NO justification for this cruelty. None! Not money, not jobs, it’s not away to dispose of unwanted horses. The slaughter industry breeds unwanted horses!!!

Come on Oklahoma! Stand up and get it stopped. You don’t want this in your backyards!

I believe your state has 18,000 wild horses in holding pens. They very well could be in danger of being dumped at a slaughter plant that opens there. These animals suppose to be federally protected pieces of our history and heritage. Like the Bald eagle that represents freedom, the mustang does too and should not be killed. Wild horses should not meet such an awful fate either.

I am still getting used to this blogging stuff. So I am going to include some good links here, to information, so you can read further if you are interested.

Help out a kitty

I want to share a story about a cat that was rescued, named Atlas. This poor cat has been through hell and back. He had a major infection in his mouth but with the loving care of his rescuers, he seems to be pulling though. I wanted to share this story in the hopes of spreading around his Chipin page so that he can get the surgery that he needs.

It probably would be easier to just put this poor cat down, but he has such a fighting spirit his rescuers just couldn’t bare that thought. Every life is precious after all, and if we are to gain some semblance of humanity in this world shouldn’t we give him a chance too?

Here is his page. His whole story and even updates, is on there. If you can donate even 1 dollar that will go towards helping out this poor kitty. He is improving but he still needs surgery.

Getting Started

Here is my very first real blog. I have to say this is a bit of a daunting task for me. But here I go. I already spend to much time on facebook. I can’t believe I am starting a blog. I never really wanted a blog but figure heck, why not. Maybe I should put my random postings that I share on facebook and put them in a more collected, meaningful thoughtful space.

I tend to be ADD and lose my train of thought. A lot! I think facebook inspires that kind of mentality. You have tons of short memes and images going around. How on earth can any one really focus on them in a meaningful way, right? Unless you are an activist of some kind that puts a lot of effort into petition writing and awareness campaigns like many of my friends do. I met a lot of them on a web site called care2 doing just that. So maybe this blog will help me get my thoughts together better and even translate that into art.

Many of those friends are very opinionated,  as I can be myself. Some of them are activists against animal cruelty and even political activists for human rights. Heh…they can be pushy, myself included but I don’t want to be that here.

I want to share my love of animals, with a bit consciousness thrown in there about animal cruelty occasionally.  I want a worth while collection of thoughts, that even connect to my artwork in some way. I want people to enjoy my thoughts as well as my art. Maybe even learn something they didn’t know about animals such as wild horses, which are at times, an inspiration for my love of drawing horses.

Here is one example inspired by the wild. It is an ACEO sized (2.5×3.5 inches in size) Completed in color pencil.

Located at my Etsy shop. Thank you for stopping by and greeting me to the blogging world. HA!

I hope you come back for more updates.
